Inuit Art Birds Kinngait - Book of Postcards

Cape Dorset—called Kinngait in the Inuit language, Inuktitut, for the area's high, rolling hills—is a thriving community on southwestern Baffin Island, in the Canadian Arctic Territory of Nunavut. The community is renowned for the wonderful Inuit art that flows from its cooperatively owned printmaking studios, active since the 1950s. This book of postcards presents 30 reproductions of lithographs, etchings/aquatints, stonecuts, and stencils from the artists of the Kinngait studios. Elegant, eloquent, and filled with quiet power, they amount—individually and collectively—to a strong and buoyant statement of Inuit cultural traditions. Works by these artists comprise the collection: Kenojuak Ashevak, Ohotaq Mikkigak, Qavavau Manumie, Kananginak Pootoogook, Sheojuk Etidlooie, Nikotai Mills, Pitaloosie Saila, and Iyola Kingwatsiak. 30 color reproductions bound in a handy postcard collection Mail the postcards, or keep the book for your own collection Decorate your office or dorm room with a wall of images Informative introductory text Backs of postcards offer enough room for short messages Perforated for easy removal Oversized postcards may require additional postage Pomegranate's books of postcards feature exclusive selections of art from museums and artists around the world Book: 6.875 x 4.75 x .375 in.
