This book was published on the occasion of Helen Frankenthaler: Drawing within Nature: Paintings from the 1990s at Gagosian, 541 West 24th Street, New York. Organized in collaboration with the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, the exhibition featured paintings and works on paper made by Frankenthaler from 1990 through 1995. Grounded in the artist's experience of landscape, these late-career works amplify the expressive painterly means she had pursued since the 1950s, introducing new approaches to abstraction. The catalogue is illustrated with color plates and details of twelve paintings and three large-scale works on paper, along with archival photographs of the artist in her studio. A new essay by art historian Thomas Crow elucidates her work in this era and offers interpretations of the paintings in the exhibition. 11 × 12 7/8 inches
