Mood Board

A play on words — and an introduction to feelings. The Wooden Mood Board is a brilliantly clever shape sorter with a real educational purpose. Each shape has an expression on its face — happy, sad, surprised, calm — and the corresponding mood word is printed on the base board next to its matching slot. As children sort the shapes into the right holes, they're learning to recognize emotions, name feelings, and connect facial expressions to the words that describe them. Emotional vocabulary is one of the most important developmental skills a toddler can build, and it's often hard to teach. The Mood Board makes it tactile, visual, and playful — a child sorts a sad face into its slot, sees the word, and starts to make the connection. It's also a beautifully simple shape sorter, building all the usual fine motor and matching skills along the way. The double-purpose design — language learning plus shape sorting — is genuinely thoughtful.
